Belize Coast Guard asks public assistance in locating men missing at sea

Posted: Monday, September 6, 2021. 11:33 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The Belize Coast Guard (BCG) is appealing to the public for information to assist in the recovery of two men who were reported lost at sea over the weekend.

The BCG issued a statement today, explaining that the men, 31-year-old Luis Antoni Carranza and 31-year-old Adam Menjivar, both Belizean fishermen of Hopkins village, left Puerto Cortes around 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1 in a vessel bearing the name Ashley.

The men were expected to arrive in Round Caye later that evening but never arrived and on Friday, September 3, the BCG deployed personnel to conduct searches for them within Belizean waters, while receiving assistance from Honduran authorities, who conducted searches within their jurisdiction.

The men are currently still missing and the Belize Defense Force will be assisting with air support today as searches continue.

Anyone with information that could assist the BCG is asked to report it by calling 222-5262, 614-1239, or the hotline at 999.
