By Aaron Humes: Amid swirling reports of a change at the top, the Opposition United Democratic Party says it will address the press this week.
Party insiders tell us the party’s leader will be addressing the media on the issue, but two men answer to that description – UDP Leader Patrick Faber and Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives Moses “Shyne” Barrow. We are told Faber is out of the country and we have so far been unable to reach Barrow at this hour.
The news comes as the party prepares to give its first address as second on the bill for Independence Day next Tuesday, ahead of Prime Minister John Briceno. That speech is given traditionally by the Leader of the Opposition as an alternative to the Prime Minister and has become known for aggressively setting the Opposition agenda.
Barrow was elected from his peers to replace Faber three months ago in June, after Hugo Patt, first deputy leader, switched his support. Faber has made it no secret that he wants to again unify the positions and will lean on Patt to again switch sides.
We will of course to continue to follow the Belchina intrigue.
