By Aaron Humes: Charge d’affaires Leyla Moses-Ones saluted the courage of the founders of the Hub being opened today, Sheldon Sosa and Christopher Hyde.
Sosa is from Jump Street and Hyde from Rocky Road, but for many years neither could step into the other’s territory as gang members, which she noted limited not only their movements but also their dreams.
But their determination to overcome the “petty rivalries” that once separated them led them to encourage others to leave the life and join together to form this new business; one that, it is hoped, will supercede the “inevitability” of gang life as those in Yarborough, George Street and Saint Martin’s have, a year later and in the teeth of the pandemic.
