By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Jordan Casanova is trying out with the Chicago Fire U-23 in Chicago and will miss out on the international football triangular in Nicaragua the Belize Men’s National Football Team (BMNT) is playing in Nicaragua next week.
“To all those in Chicago that have been supporting us in Chicago, Jordan Casanova will take to the field today for his first day of tryout with the Chicago fire U23 team,” U-20 National Team Coach Dale Pelayo, who accompanied Casanova, posted on social media on Monday.
“He is very excited. We want to thank everyone who have made it possible.”
Last November, the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) announced that MLS club Chicago Fire invited the Garden City and BMNT player to a trial at the Chicago Fire Football Academy in Bridgeview, Illinois.
The 17-year-old central defender was scouted by the Chicago Fire when he represented Belize at the Concacaf U-20 Qualifiers in the Dominican Republic last year. Casanova, originally from Corozal, was the sub captain of the U-20 BMNT at the tournament.
Casanova has played at all levels of the FFB’s national team’s including the Belize Senior Men’s team, the U-23, U-19, U-18, U-17, and U-15 national teams.
The trial was to have run from January 10-23, but was delayed by a week.
