By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Five Belizean football legends attended Belize’s U19 Central American Championship game on Tuesday at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan, said the Football Federation of Belize (FFB).
“Yesterday, we were honored to have football legends with us at the home of the Jaguars, the FFB stadium showing their support for our Jaguars!” said the FFB in a social media post on Wednesday.
The accompanying picture shows the five living legends from left to right: Maurice ‘Reesho’ Jones, Ricky Gongora, Erwin Contreras, Wayne ‘Hogman’ Olivera, and Cristobal ‘Stobal’ Mayen.
All were the leading players in their teams in their day.
“The legends of the game were strikers in the 70’s and 80’s and were honorary guests hosted at the VIP inside the FFB stadium. They were then treated to supper at one of the local restaurants in Belmopan,” said the FFB.
“Thank you all for coming out!”
Unfortunately, Belize lost 5-1 to El Salvador.
