Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital gets $80,000 worth of medical supplies from the US Army

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority (KHMHA), received a donation of medical supplies from the United States Army, via the U.S. Southern Command’s Humanitarian Assistance Program.

The donation, which consisted of needle containers, oxygen masks, gloves, and other perishables, was facilitated through the U.S. Embassy’s Security Cooperation Office.

Major Anissa Johnson, Bilateral Affairs Officer in the U.S. Embassy’s Security Cooperation Office, explained that the donation was valued at US$40,000, and is one of several donations made to the KHMH this year through the programme. The donations are to help Belize in the ongoing fight against COVID-19.

“COVId-19 is likely here to stay. Recently the Us vice President was diagnosed with COVID-19,” Major Johnson said. “So we know that COVId is gonna be here or a while and it’s these types of donations that will help prevent and likely mitigate the spread of COVID-19.”

Chandra Nisbet Cansino, Chief Executive Officer of the KHMH, said that the donations assist greatly in helping the hospital save money, at a time where collections are especially difficult due to COVID-19. she noted that the hospital has other requests for supplies in the works and that Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) are among those requests.

“This is the first of what we would hope to be a little bit more support than they would provide and certainly the PPEs are on that list,” Nisbeth Cansino said.
