One person detained in murder of security guard at a supermarket

By Aaron Humes: The shooting of a security guard at Super Q Mart located on the Bullet Tree Road, San Ignacio Town, Cayo District on Thursday night is now a murder.

A police report says one person has been detained pending investigation.

27-year-old David Edgar Gonzalez of Santa Elena Town was on duty when an armed man approached, trying to grab the security guard’s weapon.

The culprit used his own weapon to shoot at Gonzalez until he fell to the ground, then took his 9-millimeter pistol issued by Anchor Security Company and ran off. The incident was caught on surveillance video from the supermarket entrance.

Gonzalez was rushed to the San Ignacio Community Hospital where he died while being attended to in the emergency room. He sustained six gunshot wounds. His body awaits a post-mortem examination.
