By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “As we promised the villagers of Machakilha when we visited them, the road has now reached their village,” said Valentino Shal, CEO of the Ministry of Rural Transformation in a social media post about the road that will now connect the remote Toledo village to the rest of the district and the country.

“It was their number one request to us because they know it would change their lives tremendously given their extremely remote location.”

Shal paid tribute to teacher Arnaldo Putul for believing like Shal does that “our rural communities deserve better” and pushed for his dream to become a reality.

“Finally the road reaches Machakilha village. We are so happy to see that the help we needed is almost completed,” said Putul.

“Thanks to all who have been supporting and this access will be for our children, visitors, and more. Thanks to all Belizean brothers and sisters and beyond, Ministry of Works, ministers, CEO, and Machakilha people. More work needs to be done but we strongly believe that all goes well and that all works to be completed soon, culverts be placed where necessary. God bless you all,” Putul added.

“We are Rural Transformation,” said Shal.
