Ministry of Health & Wellness celebrates World No Tobacco Day countrywide under the theme, “Tobacco, Threat to our environment”

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Health & Wellness (MOHW) today celebrated World No Tobacco Day countrywide under the theme, “Tobacco, Threat to our environment”

“This year the Ministry, through the National Drug Abuse Control Council (NDACC), aims to raise awareness on the environmental impacts of tobacco – from cultivation, production, distribution and waste,” said the Ministry of Health and Wellness on social media.

“Throughout its cycle, tobacco pollutes the planet & damages the health of all people.”

The NDACC set up shop in the different cities and towns to campaign against tobacco.

In the Cayo District, the NDACC staff hosted its World No Tobacco Day event at St Michael’s RC School in Las Flores, Belmopan. The participating health units included HECOPAB, Mental health, Social Worker, Nutritionist Unit among others, said the NDACC.

In the Belize District, the NDACC was at the Battlefield Park in Belize City “with stakeholders such as HECOPAB, Dental Association, VCT, Community Policing, Kidney Association of Belize, Belize Diabetes Association, Blood Bank and Test Clinic”.

On Monday, the combined NDACC-MOHW team had a World No Tobacco Day 2022 Health Fair at the Punta Gorda Park.
