NEMO: Agatha remnants may emerge causing torrential rains in Belize

Posted: Tuesday, May 31, 2022. 1:25 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) and the National Meteorological Services of Belize issued an advisory today informing us that the remnants of Hurricane Agatha may emerge in the northwest Caribbean Sea with torrential rains over parts of Central America, specifically over Belize.

NEMO noted that the system may redevelop but it is not forecasted to make landfall on Belize.

Just over four inches of rainfall has affected northern parts of Belize and another 2 to 4 inches are likely within the next couple of days, NEMO reports.

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in most areas of the country, especially at night, a flood watch is in effect for areas prone to flooding.

NEMO advises the public to be alert and those along rivers, creeks, and low-lying areas including farmers and fisherfolks to take the necessary actions to save lives.

Drivers are reminded to drive slow and put on their hazard lights when driving in the rain.
