Special Envoy’s Wonder Woman Of The Week Is Educator Francelia Cantun

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Special Envoy for the development of families and children, Rossana Briceno features outstanding Belizean women making a difference in Belize every week.

This week’s spotlight is on Francelia Cantun, the principal at Stella Maris School and the former Vice Principal at St. Peter’s Anglican School in Orange Walk Town, a position she served for twelve years, and as a special education teacher for eighteen years.

In 1988, Cantun began her teaching profession at Stella Maris School before moving over to St. Peter’s Anglican School in 1991 until 2021.

In 2000, Cantun completed her Associate’s Degree in Primary Education at the University College of Belize.

She furthered her education by obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education in 2010 from the University of Belize (UB).

 In 2013, she earned a certificate in School Leadership at Corozal Community Junior College, and in 2015 went on to pursue a Master’s Degree in Education at Bridgewater State University in Boston Massachusetts.

Her passion is developing positive relations with everyone within her school community, working with students as they grow, and supporting her teachers and staff so that they can reach their greatest potential.

 Her desire is to transform Stella Maris into an institution that gears toward career paths for students so that upon leaving, they can be gainfully and successfully employed.

Cantun pledges to continue maintaining a strong commitment to the staff and students at Stella Maris so that her students become the best version of themselves.
