By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Mexican President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced that he will not attend the Summit of the Americas that is being held in Los Angeles, California this week.
Lopez Obrador says that he is not attending because not all countries from the region were invited. However, he says that he plans to visit President Joe Biden in July.
Mexico’s Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard will attend the US-hosted summit.
Many of the region’s leaders had shared their concerns about the exclusion of the governments of Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua from the summit.
The Mexican President was one of the leaders that threatened not to attend if not all countries were invited.
Meanwhile, officials in Washington say that the summit will be successful no matter which regional leaders choose to attend.
