Did 39-уеаr-оld Теѕѕіе Саmаl die from fire or something else?

By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize National Fire Service (BNFS) says that it is awaiting the post-mortem results for 39-уеаr-оld Теѕѕіе Саmаl, to determine whether or not she died as a result of a house fire or some other circumstance.

Station Chief Kenneth Mortis said today that firefighters received a call of a house fire on Faber’s Road Extension on Saturday, June 11th at 12:55 a.m., and the first truck arrived on the scene four minutes later. Mortis said that when they arrived on the scene the building was already engulfed in flames but the back door to the house was open.

He said that Camal was found lying face down with her right arm under the remains of her bed, which had been destroyed by fire. Her body was extracted and investigations were launched into the cause of the fire but to date, nothing conclusive has been found.

“It could well be an accidental fire, it could well be a malicious act. When we arrived on the scene firefighters found the back of the building open. We know that the room she was in lies literally across the front door of the building. So had he been conscious we believe that she could have made it out of that building; out of her room and literally across through the front door,” Mortis said.

The Belize Police Department has scheduled the post-mortem examination as part of an ongoing investigation.
