Lobster is back!

Posted: Thursday, June 30, 2022. 6:17 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The first day of July brings the return of Caribbean Spiny Lobster (Panulirus argus) fishing season as legislated by the Fisheries Department under Statutory Instrument 128 of 2021.

Per regulations, no lobster may be kept whose minimum carapace length is less than three inches; with a tail weight of less than four ounces; with soft shell (moulting) or any female with berried eggs, and no eggs, spawn, setae or fibre to which any eggs or spawn are attached can be removed from females.

Also, lobster fillet or diced tail is not allowed.

The public is advised to report any illegal fishery activity by calling telephone number 224-4552 or by email: [email protected].

Caye Caulker’s Lobsterfest this weekend marks the official opening of the season, while Placencia’s event takes place on the weekend of July 15.
