Bus runs over bicyclist in downtown Orange Walk

By Aaron Humes: The first of two fatalities in road incidents in the Orange Walk District was reported just after six Tuesday night in the downtown area at Cinderella Street and Queen Victoria Avenue.

Herman Cawich of Santa Familia Street, Orange Walk, was cycling across the street when a bus going south on the Avenue entered the pedestrian walk.

Police say Cawich attempted to turn back but slipped off the bicycle and hit the right side of the bus, causing him to fall to the ground near the rear wheel. However, the driver did not see him and continued on, causing fatal injuries.

Police are investigating.
