Sembrando Vida Project is hiring Extension Officers

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Sembrando Vida Project will be hiring their own extension officers to carry out the Mexico government-sponsored program that is expected to benefit 2,000 Belizean Farmers over the next three years.

According to Emilio Rene Montero, National Food and Nutrition Security Commission (NFNSC) coordinator, the Sembrando Vida project to be run by the Mexican International Agency for Cooperation and Development (Amexcid) is being implemented to assist small farmers that have within .5 of an acre to 5 acres of land under cultivation.

“These farmers will be getting an economic incentive for four months with agricultural inputs like fertilizer, seeds, irrigation systems, and so on. And eight months of training.”

Montero said that for Amexcid to carry out the project they will have to hire approximately 16 extension officers.

The announcement put out by the Governments of Belize and Mexico says the Sembrando Vida project is hiring persons to carry out Consultancy Services to perform functions as Agriculture Extension Officers for the Sembrando Vida project in Belize.

The Extension Officers hired will be expected to carry out “the Project’s workplans, implement programs, provide technical assistance, and establish lots as indicated.”

They will also be expected to attend meetings, prepare records and reports, coordinate activities, and establish biofermentation/bio-fertilizer units.

Interested persons should have completed junior college with a major in Agriculture, have a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, and/or have a technical career in agronomy or related fields.

A minimum of three to five years’ experience in agriculture would be an asset.

They are also expected to have one year of experience working with participatory methodologies.

The announcement also says the persons hired should have good interpersonal relations, good written and oral communication skills, work as part of a team, and be proactive. They should also have a valid driver’s license.

Salary depends on qualifications and experience.
