American retiree shot dead at Corozal home

By Aaron Humes: Alabama native Rodney Wayne Rushing, 66, has been identified as the victim of last night’s murder near his home in Corozal Town on Consejo Road.

A police report states that after 8 p.m., a constable who had just gotten home himself heard about nine gunshots fired and went to check it out. Informed that two persons were seen running from the area, he tried to apprehend them by returning fire but was unsuccessful.

Rushing’s body was recovered near a grey Hyundai Tucson SUV parked inside the yard, not far from his cement dwelling, with the driver’s side open, suggesting he had just gotten out.

Police have confirmed that there was no forced entry to the house. Investigations continue.
