By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Altitude are again sitting atop the Premier League of Belize standings after five matches, one game past the halfway point in the first round of the 2022-23 Opening Championship.
Altitude have 12 points from four wins and a loss having scored seven goals and allowed two.
Champions Verdes, after their draw with the San Pedro Pirates, dropped to 2nd place again. The Green Machine are the only undefeated club though the have one point less than Altitude. So far they’ve won three matches and drawn two. Verdes are also the only team that hasn’t been scored upon. The have four goals to their credit.
Wagiya and Progresso are next with nine points each. Goal differential has Wagiya (7-5) in third place and Progresso (4-3) in fourth. Like Verdes, both have won three games but have lost twice each.
The San Pedro Pirates are in fifth place with seven points from two victories, a draw, and two losses. They have scored four times and allowed three.
Port Layola and Benque Viejo United are in the sixth and seventh spots respectively, with four points each. Both have won one, drawn one, and lost three. The two have a -4 in goal differential but Port have more goals in favour. While the Belize City squad have scored twice and allowed six, Benque have only scored once and given up five.
Meanwhile, the Belmopan Bandits are in the cellar with one point. So far, they’ve drawn once and lost four times. The Bandits are the only club that hasn’t won a game yet.
