By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 30-year-old security guard has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison following a charge of theft.

Phillip Lopez appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court yesterday, charged for allegedly stealing 15 cases of Smirnoff Ice, a total value of 41,170, from the Belize Brewing Company’s Ladyville branch.

In court, Lopez pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of $1,500 plus one surety of the same. However, Lopez was not able to post bail in time yesterday and was remanded to prison until he is able to do so.

He is due back in court on October 28.

A supervisor at the Belize Brewing Company’s Ladyville branch said that on Saturday, August 20, all stores were accounted for but on Monday, August 22, he noticed that a number of Smirnoff cases were empty, prompting an investigation which ultimately led them to Lopez.
