By Breaking Belize News Staff: Forecasters are monitoring a robust tropical wave that was located near the northeastern coast of South America yesterday.
The system is designated Invest 98L by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and is of great concern for the Caribbean.
AccuWeather is currently referencing it as a tropical rainstorm.
Paul Pastelok, Lead Long-Range Meteorologist at AccuWeather said that “if the main brunt of the tropical rainstorm is able to avoid drifting over South America, it can evolve into a full-fledged tropical storm as early as Wednesday or Thursday while over the eastern Caribbean.”
He further added that even though initial organization and strengthening may be a bit slow with the system, it could begin to rapidly intensify as it reaches the central and western Caribbean from this weekend to early next week.
The NHC said Invest 98L has a 70% chance of development over the next two days and a 90% chance over the next five days.
According to forecasters, the Hurricane Hunters plan to start reconnaissance missions into this disturbance every 12 hours starting tonight.
The next named storm will be called Hermine.
Hurricane season ends on November 30th, 2022.
