Fresh Pond community members join together to hold a cleanup campaign

By Benjamin Flowers: The community of Fresh Pond in Burrell Boom Village came together this weekend to support each other in a cleanup campaign.

The initiative, which started around 7:00 a.m. and lasted until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, was done in collaboration with the Village Council Committee and support from Belize Solid Waste Management, which donated the gloves and bags. The event also saw support from the private sector with businesses such as Waight Bus, D&A Construction, and Martinez Shop pitching in to assist.

Youths were offered community service hours to participate in the function, and an anonymous donor even provided school supplies as a token of appreciation for those that showed up to support the initiative, aimed at displaying civic pride and community participation.

By the end of the initiative, eight bags of recyclable plastics were bagged off from among the garbage picked up around the community. The initiative is one of several coming out of the village, with a community raffle planned for Sunday, October 2, the proceeds of which will go towards street rehabilitation and a community park.
