International News: Mexican Mayor abducted near U.S. border

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Mayor of Guerrero, Mexico, and a group of Mexican officials are reported missing after they were abducted by armed men on Friday night, Reuters report.

Mayor Mario Infante was traveling with 8 other people on Friday night when authorities lost contact with his group in the city of Nuevo Laredo.

Before they lost contact, the officials reportedly alerted authorities that 2 trucks with armed men were following them.

State officials later confirmed that the group had been kidnapped and authorities are now working with Mexican armed forces to get them back.

The border city of Nuevo Laredo is in nearby Tamaulipas State and has long been notorious for gang violence.
