By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-eight-year-old Travis Navarro, the man charged for the 2013 murder of Raji Gonguez, is now a free man after the Officer of the Director of Public Prosecutions dropped the charge.

Navarro appeared in court on Monday to learn that the DPP’s office had entered a nolle prosequi, indicating to the court that it no longer wished to proceed with the matter against him.

In court it was explained that the prosecution’s main witness is suffering from mental illness, making him unfit to testify, despite the statement he had given to police during the initial investigation into the matter.

Gonguez was fatally shot to the face in front of San Pedro Belize Express water taxi terminal on North Front street on April 29, 2013.

Navarro was indicted for murder and in July 2018, he was released on $10,000 bail pending the trial that came to an end on Monday.
