Belize Agro Enterprise Ltd (BAEL) makes a second export of EM.1® biofertilizer to Jamaica

Posted: Tuesday, November 22, 2022. 7:56 am CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize Agro Enterprise Ltd (BAEL) made its second export of Effective Microorganisms™ biofertilizer to Jamaica earlier this month through BelCar Export.

According to BAEL’s General Manager William Usher, the product which is used to improve organic agricultural production and the quality of livestock and poultry production, was received by the distributor in Jamaica last Thursday, November 3.

“Our first shipment was 1,200 liters of the product, 100 cases about 4 months ago,” GM Usher said. “This time our shipment was a little over 3,000 liters of product, including 54 cases and 12 barrels at 210 liters each.”

Usher said for this second export, BAEL sent barrels because a number of key buyers wanted the products in barrels mainly for trial purposes at this time.

Usher said BAEL is the exclusive licensed manufacturer and distributor of this Japanese technology called Effective Microorganisms (EM.1®) in CARICOM.

He said he believes that exports to Jamaica will improve.

“We believe that this will be a constant in that after my visit to Jamaica three  weeks ago, from the distributor standpoint, we have major interest in the livestock and poultry areas, in particular for sustainable beef and milk production, and for vegetable production,” Usher said.

“There is a big push for the use in organic vegetable production in which Jamaica is pushing for self-sustainability in that area being that it is a tourism destination. They are hoping that the importation of organic vegetables will be less and that it is produced more in Jamaica.”

Usher said that they have also been working on trials in wastewater management and he expects more of their EM.1® microbial technology will be imported by Jamaica. For now, he expects that the Jamaica distributor will, over the next few months, order more regularly.

“Within the coming year, we will probably see that amount of product being ordered every two months,” Usher said.

According to the BAEL General Manager,  EM.1® is a technology that can be used as a probiotic that helps animals to grow healthier, improving the digestive system while at the same time improving feed conversion rate. Usher added that EM Technology™ reduces the costs of feed and the cost of chemical fertilizers while bioremediating and restructuring degraded soils where they are used. At the same time, EM.1®  is also being used in wastewater management to clean industrial and sewage wastewater while controlling odour where it is used.

EM Technology™, which is used worldwide, has been used in Belize for the last 12 years and BAEL has been exporting to Barbados over the last six years. And now they are securing a market in Jamaica.
