By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Lake-I and the Freetown Bombers played a thrilling football match that finished in a 4-4 draw in the Belize City Champions Cup at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City.

Lake-I’s Jerome ‘Jarro’ James opened the hostilities in the 3rd minute of the match. The score remained like that for a while, but the Freetown Bombers’ Leocadio Briceño made sure his team evened things before the half was over, nailing the equalizer in the 43rd minute.

The second half was a sizzler with six goals shaking the net. Things got off to a good start for the Freetown Bombers who took the lead in the 53rd courtesy of Steven Baizer.

But Lake-I responded with viciousness hammering three goals in nine minutes. Deltroy Gamboa tied the match at 2-2 in the 62nd, James struck for a second time in the 67th to put them up 3-2, and Francis Arana made it 4-2 in the 71st.

But the Freetown Bombers were not to be outdone and rallied back in the last five minutes to tie the match on a second strike by Baizer in the 86th and the closer by Marlon Gutierrez in the 89th.

Lake-I remain at the top of the standings with 10 points while the Freetown Bombers are in second place with eight. With one game remaining in the regular season of the tournament organized by Marvin Ottley, both teams are already assured a spot in the playoffs.

Westlake/Port downed New Revelation 3-1 in the other game played on Sunday. The Ladyville Wolves won 3-0 over the Ladyville Rising Stars by forfeit.
