By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Black Panther star, Letitia Wright, a Guyanese- British actress was welcomed with open arms in Guyana last Friday.

Her fun-filled itinerary included visiting her alma mater, Patentia Primary School, receiving an honorary degree, and addressing the National Assembly.

Wright,29, attended the school before she left Guyana for the United Kingdom over 20 years ago.

“I want to encourage every child that feels unseen, not heard or unloved…I want to encourage you that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. I want to encourage you that you have purpose in this life. Going through life is not going to be easy,” she said.

Wright was honored with an honorary Doctorate of Letters and the Arts from the University of Guyana.

An emotional Wright said that she always remembered her hometown.

“As the years went by and as God was able to use my talent, I always made it known to everyone in Hollywood that I am from Guyana,” Wright stated.

She also addressed Guyana’s National Assembly during her visit.

“I don’t know the ins and outs of politics, I care more about children and the betterment of young people that is where my Ministry is. But as you all come together to make decisions for the country, I encourage you both—both sides, both parties—I encourage peace, I encourage love. I am peace and I am of love and I am just proud of you both and everybody that is working for the betterment and empowerment of our country,” Wright said.

Wright says that she wants to use her platform to inspire the youths.

The actress also received the Key to the City of Georgetown.
