By Breaking Belize News Staff: An investigation is underway after a teacher at Canaan SDA High School in Belize City was placed on administrative leave following allegations of misconduct.
The Ministry of Education was informed of the claims after a female student’s parents reported that the teacher had made unwelcomed sexual advances toward the teen via social media and texts.
The student’s parent informed the school’s administration on January 24, but it wasn’t until the parent visited the school on January 31 and demanded the dismissal of the teacher that action was taken.
According to reports, the teacher sent the student an inappropriate message in which he expressed his desire for a romantic and physical relationship with the student.
The parent of the student has claimed that this is a systematic problem within the school that could endanger other students.
The Ministry of Education stated in a press release that it is “disturbed and deeply concerned” by the allegations and is committed to ensuring that schools are safe and conducive for learning for all students and teachers.
The outcome of the investigation is pending.
