By Aaron Humes: The former promoters for the cancelled 2020 concert featuring Dexta Daps say they will cover full refunds for those who bought tickets to see that performance.
The concert promoted by Deon ‘DJ Dixie’ Longsworth and Sheena Pollard was among the many events cancelled due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. As they explained in a press briefing, they paid US$11,000 in a down payment to secure his appearance and their contract with his management sets a 120-day period to reschedule the concert, which in this case would have been after Belize reopened.
But in the meantime, the Jamaican artiste got new management and they washed their hands of the affair.

DJ Dixie maintained that he tried his best to get the matter settled before coming to the press and for the most part, is absorbing the US$80,000-plus in losses including payments to associated Belizean performers. But the new management even refused to allow holders of tickets from the 2020 concert to redeem them to attend the February 11 concert at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex. They had sold about 100 tickets at general admission and VIP prices.
The pair say they want their fans to know that they fought to get the concert held or to get them their money back and that they do not want to “throw shade” at the new promoters to whom they lost an injunction hearing on Monday. But Longsworth said Daps effectively “disrespected” the Belizean fans and is now coming only because he’s getting bigger money and because certain Belizeans became turncoats.
Longsworth and Pollard say they will continue their legal fight in order to recover the money they put into the 2020 concert.
