By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Irate Port Layola players and fans up in arms have taken to social media criticizing the Premier League of Belize (PLB) and the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) after the FFB Appeals Committee ruling took away the three points from the 2-1 win over Verdes for fielding ineligible Messi countryman, Jonathan Moschini.

The game in question was played on Sunday, January 29, at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio. Verdes was declared a 3-0 winner according to the PLB Byelaws meaning Port drop from first to second position after falling from 14 to 11 points while Verdes move up to third place from sixth after moving up from eight to 11 points.

Players like Elroy Smith, who used to play for Verdes, Ian Gaynair, and Argentine player Jonathan Moschini, have been quite vocal.

“If the player was no fit to play why did they leave his name active on the roster?” Smith said.

“That’s not port fc fault that’s the league’s fault but then again who owns the league? It’s all conflict of interest with all due respect … this doesn’t just affects port fc it affects altitude and sanpedro as well who are also fighting to achieve the same goal.”

“Verdes FC you all about to open a can of worms trying to take our points,” Ian Gaynair said.

“This won’t end like this, we gonna get back our points!!!”

““How can a player be illegal to play if his name came crystal clear on the roster to play and the said player just played about 12-15 minutes literally,” Andres Makin Jr said.

“It’s clear as daylight,” Altitude’s Dellon ‘Dee Breezy’ Torres said in a post.

“The second division tournaments across the country are getting more interesting and people are losing interest in the top league mainly because of the circus off the field. Every season da some kind a controversy.”

Even the man in the middle of the controversy, Argentine Jonathan Moschini had his piece to say.

“They really leave a lot to be desired as a federation …” Moschini said in a comment to the PLB’s post explaining the new Table of Standings.

“I only see a Green team that, since it cannot win on the field, needs help … to go to Concacaf. And I also see a player who is going to be unable to play until the next tournament for no reason and without knowing the damage they may be causing him!”

Despite all of this the Port of Layola administration remained calm under pressure, calling on their players to remain focused.

“Let’s stay focus players,” said Port Layola FC.

“We have one more game to face verdes fc let’s get that win again. Don’t let this stop us from shining. Despite this we have a game ahead of us Sunday to focus on need another +3 in our bag.”
