Grace Primary burgled – did cops ignore 911 calls?

Posted: Wednesday, February 22, 2023. 9:43 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Police are being questioned as to whether a burglary at Grace Primary School in the Faber’s Road Extension area on the weekend could have been prevented.

The burglars removed a desktop computer and other items from the office of the vice-principal as well as the cafeteria and left a mess, including broken burglar bar locks and spoiled food.

But reports from school management and neighbours suggest there were several attempts to contact the Police, which has a substation further up Faber’s Road as well as across the George Price Highway at Precinct Four on Albert Hoy Avenue in Belama – but apparently no one responded.

Department press officer Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood said he would ask for the log of 911 calls from the weekend to verify what was the Department’s response or lack thereof, emphasizing that if calls were made, they are recorded as a matter of course: “A lot of people try to say that they called 9-1-1 but I want to make it categorically clear to the general public every call that comes into our 9-1-1 center is recorded whether or not it’s a prank call or a call giving us information about a crime it’s recorded. … as far as I know, we don’t ignore any call whether it’s a prank or about information and I’m certain that if that call came in it would have had a police response. Definitely would have.”

Investigations continue.
