By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Councilor Pauline Soberanis Tillett and Tricia Pelayo of the Belmopan City Council heard the story of 14-year-old Antoine Flores who is battling osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and began seeking sponsorship to make his dreams a reality.
For the last 3 years, Flores’ life had been consumed by dreary days spent at home or in a hospital bed, enduring the painful reality that life as he once knew it would never be the same.
Antoine lost one of his legs because of cancer but he remains hopeful and optimistic.
His dream was to fly on a plane and visit Caye Caulker.
On February 25, 2023, Antoine and his family were able to fly to Caye Caulker to spend his 14th birthday at Island Magic Beach Resort.
The family relaxed, enjoyed the pool, and ate delectable meals provided by an anonymous donor.
This experience will undoubtedly remain a treasured moment for him and his family.
The Belmopan City Council, Councilor Tillett and the family extends special thanks to all the stakeholders (known and anonymous) who supported Antione’s dream, including Maya Island Air, who surprised Antoine with a birthday cake, a plaque with the words “Outstanding Courage” and his very own Maya cap; Island Magic Beach Resort for providing the accommodations, and the Belmopan City Council for assisting with transportation.
Councilor Tillett has embarked on a “Make a Dream” initiative for terminally ill children.
