By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man who was in debt with the judiciary for over $4,000 asked this week to be sent to prison to serve out his fines.

Thirty-three-year-old Ryan Nolberto appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he was charged with a single count of aggravated assault.

He immediately pleaded guilty and was fined $1,000 plus $5 cost of court. He was given until June 15 to pay or he would spend four months in prison.

However, Nolberto was found to have a number of unpaid fines for previous convictions which were a state of emergency curfew violation, damage to property, and threatening words. He asked the court to prepare a warrant for him to serve out the fines in prison, which, when taken together concurrently, will amount to a total of six months in prison.
