By Aaron Humes: A grandstand finish is on tap after a windy third day on the Belize River in the Belikin La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge.
After a thirty-six mile route from Double Head Cabbage to Paradise River Landing in Burrell Boom, Belize District, the top eight finishers were as follows: 1. PACT; 2. Slim and Trim like Guava Limb; 3. Lucas Oil by Westrac; 4. Koop Sheet Metal; 5. Coast Guard Net 0; 6. Wateva Boyz Travellers Liquors; 7. Audubon Green Guardians; and 8. Santander Sugar Group.
Paddlers acknowledged that the wind had picked up on the course and the level of preparation differed.
On Monday, a 9 a.m. start will take the teams from Boom to the Belcan Bridge in front of the Civic Center. A 3 thousand dollar station prize will feature at the Burrell Boom Bridge and the course is expected to be open as it winds past the Haulover Bridge and into Haulover Creek for the finish.
Congratulations to all participants.
