By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Amir Ramos outran the field in the Women in Stride 5K Open (for men and women) race organized by the Women in Sports Commission in Belize City in 19 minutes, 35.5 seconds (19:35.5) on Saturday morning.
The race started in front of the Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association building at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex and headed to Golden Bay on Marine Parade and back.
In the overall field, Ramos, who runs for Splash Elite, was followed by his teammate Mexican Rosa Cruz who topped the Women’s Category but who also ran faster than all the other men. Cruz clocked 20:43.1.
In the Men’s Category, Stonefit Club’s Delton ‘Stone’ Mariano was second, timed at 21:16.6.
Splash’s Giovanni Baizar was a hair behind in 21:16.7.
Independent runners Kevin Martinez (24:22.2) and Gilroy Teck (25:00.9) ran in fourth and fifth.
