By Aaron Humes: Across the Old Capital over the past two years, the Love Foundation, Kolbe Foundation and U.S. Embassy Belmopan have been transforming communities at the ground level through the Empowering Communities to Help Themselves Program.
The center piece of the program is the community hubs built in the Yabra area, George Street, Rocky Road/Jump Street and Majestic Alley which has had an impact on reducing crime and providing opportunities at all levels.
According to the organizers, 90 children benefited from academic resources provided by the hubs; 150 former gang-affiliated members have turned from a life of crime and 60 women are trained in conflict resolution and mediation.
More on this later.
