International News: Mexican authorities detain lieutenant of Gulf cartel

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Friday, the Mexican army reportedly detained a top lieutenant of the Metros faction of the violent Gulf drug cartel in Mexico.

The Gulf cartel is implicated in 23 attacks on police and 9 against military personnel.

Hugo Salinas Cortinas “La Carba” was busted with 2 guns and 600 pills, apparently fentanyl.

The Associated Press reports that Cortinas was heading migrant smuggling near the Rio Grande river, also known as the Rio Bravo.

He reportedly operated border areas across from Texas.
