By Breaking Belize News Staff: A fatal crash involving a single-engine airplane occurred in the Whitehall region of Tremlsonsworth, close to Highgate in St Mary, a northeastern parish of Jamaica. The accident resulted in the death of the pilot and left another passenger injured. According to Caribbean Loop News, rescue officials confirmed the pilot’s passing, while the injured person was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) and the police informed that the plane went down in the hilly interior of the community. A search and rescue team, comprising police officers, residents, firefighters, and members of the Jamaica Defence Force, has been scouring the densely vegetated hills of Highgate to locate the aircraft and its occupants.
Edward Miller, President of the Jamaica Aircraft Operators and Pilots Association, confirmed the death of Major Dudley Beek, a former Commanding Officer for the Jamaica Defence Force Air Wing Reserves, stating, “We have lost one of the pillars of aviation in the community.”
Local residents, who reportedly spotted the aircraft, assisted in the search and rescue mission in the hilly interior of Unity, as mentioned by Caribbean Loop News. Investigators cited by the news outlet suggest that the aircraft may have experienced engine trouble, leading to the crash.
