Belize Police Department upgraded vehicle to transport prisoners following three escapes in the past 5 months

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Over the past five months three prisoners being transported to or from the Belize Central Prison by police have escaped by jumping from the pan of the pickup they were being carried in, prompting the department to upgrade the mode of transportation.

Last week, the police department stopped using the Wingle pickup truck they had been using to transport prisoners and began using a van that has better secured the prisoners. The first group of prisoners was moved via the van on May 2.

Escapees since late 2022 were Aaron Chavez, Abner Vargass, and most recently, Ryan Foster.
