By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Mexican President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said that he will speak to U.S. President, Joe Biden tomorrow via telephone to discuss immigration and the fentanyl crisis.
The Associated Press reports that Lopez Obrador and Biden will also discuss development programs to address the flow of migrants to the U.S. border.
The announcement comes just days before the expiration of the Title 42 pandemic-era immigration restrictions that allowed U.S. authorities to quickly expel migrants who crossed the border illegally.
The Mexican President urged migrants to not be “blackmailed by coyotes, smugglers, who put you at risk.”
Last week, Mexico agreed to continue to accept migrants from Venezuela, Haiti, Cuba and Nicaragua who are turned away at the border, as well as some other migrants from Central America.
