Orange Walk Running Rebels demolish Punta Gorda Panthers 122-62, secure BEBL Playoffs berth

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Orange Walk Running Rebels secured their semifinal spot in the Belize Elite Basketball League (BEBL) by running over the Punta Gorda Panthers mercilessly by 60 points, 122-62 at the PG Auditorium on Saturday night.

The Orange Walk Running Rebels put on an impressive show posting seven men in double figures. Their main man was Kurt ‘Chengo’ Burgess, who snapped 22 points and hauled nine rebounds. James Stanback netted 19 points, pulled four rebounds, and made four assists and three steals. Tyrone Hall totalled 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds, while making eight assists and five steals.

Shemar White also accounted for 14 points supported by five assists and two steals. Bryan Hudson, Greg Fisher, and Akeem Trapp contributed 13, 12, and 10 points respectively. Fisher added five rebounds and Trapp five assists.

The homestanding Panthers were led by Eugene Benguche with 16 points and four rebounds. Chance Leslie added 13 points and 14 rebounds along with two steals. Ƙamron Petillo contributed 12 points and six rebounds and Marquies Williams scored 11 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and made five assists.

The Rebels were unstoppable shooting 51% from the field to 31.3% by the Panthers and outrebounding them 64 to 51.

While the Rebels secured their playoff spot with a 9-4 record, the Panthers finished the season with a 1-13 record.
