Toledo-based doctor charged for sexual assault during ultrasound

By Aaron Humes: Doctor Desmond Arzu, a radiologist of Toledo District, has been charged with criminal sexual assault of a patient in March following a police investigation.

While police declined to provide specific details, we understand that on March 27, a 23-year-old woman made a complaint to the Ministry of Health and Wellness that while receiving an ultrasound at a clinic in Punta Gorda, she was allegedly and aggressively sexually assaulted by the radiologist during the examination.

While awaiting the outcome of the Ministry’s investigation, she reported the matter to police who commenced an investigation of their own.

Officer Commanding Eastern Division, ACP Hilberto Romero, indicated that police faced no obstacles in their investigation from the Ministry and that the Director of Public Prosecutions’ Office determined the charges laid.

Back in March, Minister of Health Kevin Bernard told reporters that the Public Service Commission and the Medical Council would hear disciplinary proceedings against the accused radiologist.
