Competitors in William Dawson Basketball Tournament get life skills training

By Benjamin Flowers: Over the weekend, the Belize Police Department reemphasized that the William Dawson SPRITE-DIGI Youth Basketball Tournament 2023 extends beyond the realm of sports, with special sessions for the competitors.

On Saturday, the youths involved in the games participated in “life skills” sessions, facilitated by officers of the Department of Youth Services.

Douglas Hyde, one of the organizers for the tournament noted on his Facebook page that the group sessions with the young men were done “in a continuous effort of keeping the peace & unity through this intervention through sports strategy.”

There were also a total of seven games played at the Hattieville Basketball Court as the tournament closed off week four.

The results of Saturday’s games are as follows:
Game 1 – Kraal Road Boys defeated Rockville Hardnocks, 39-27
Game 2 – 501 Falcons defeated Cassava Youths, 47-30
Game 3 – Unruly Boyz defeated Balling Bulldogs, 46-45
Game 4 – Port Layola Titans defeated Complex Titans, 49-31
Game 5 -Team Police defeated Freetown Hitters, 50-40
Game 6 – Protel BPO defeated Fort George Boys, 33-25
Game 7 – Hattieville Underdogs defeated 2.0 BZ, 41-40

The tournament continues on Saturday, June 3, with 14 games scheduled to be played at the Lopez Mateo Park in Belize City.
