Belize City man fined for insulting words remanded to prison on aggravated assault charge linked to the same incident

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man fined for insulting his ex-girlfriend was remanded to the Belize Central Prison for allegedly assaulting her with a pint bottle.

Deon Brackett appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court charged with a single count of insulting words, to which he pleaded guilty and was fined $100 plus $5 cost of court which he must pay by July 31 or face one month in prison for default.

He was also charged with aggravated assault in relation to the same incident and pleaded not guilty to the charge. Brackett was granted bail in the sum of $600 but was unable to post bail.

His trial was adjourned until August 14 and he was remanded until he could post his bail.
