International News: Investigation underway after mutilated body found at sea in the Turks and Caicos Islands

Posted: Saturday, July 15, 2023. 10:42 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a mutilated body discovered at sea in the Grace Bay district.

Initial reports suggest that the Police Control Room received a call just after 9:50 am, indicating the presence of a body in the water. Upon receiving the tip, officers from both the Marine Branch and the Scenes of Crime Unit were dispatched to the scene. Conservation officers also attended the scene.

In the wake of the discovery, Acting Commissioner of Police Rodney Adam issued a stern warning to the public, urging them to refrain from circulating the graphic images from the scene across social media platforms.

Commissioner Adams condemned the distribution or circulation of the photos as “insensitive and traumatising.” He implored the public to exercise greater sensitivity and humanity when using social media platforms, reminding everyone that a life had been tragically lost. He urged everyone to refrain from viewing this incident as a chance for gaining shares and likes but instead to show some humanity in respect to the deceased.

As the investigation continues, the police force is calling on anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward to assist in their inquiries.
