By Zoila Palma Gonzalez:  Search and rescue operations continue in the historic Hawaiian town of Lahaina following devastating fires that killed 55 people.

Authorities in Hawaii say that atleast 1000 people remain missing.

In addition, Hawaii Governor Josh Green warned that the death toll is probably going to keep rising as search crews dig through the damage that he characterized as looking like a bomb scene.

As of Thursday, the blaze had been 80% contained but the raging fires forced thousands of residents and tourists to leave.

According to Bloomberg, Governor Green was reaching out to nearby hotels emptied of vacationers to secure 2,000 rooms for the displaced

“All of us have a loved one here on Maui that lost a home, that lost a friend,” Green said.

President Joe Biden has also declared a major disaster in Hawaii, freeing up federal funds to aid recovery.
