International News: 7 people killed during gang shooting at church-led protest in Haiti

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez:  On Saturday, violent gangs in Haiti opened fire with machine guns at a protest organized by a Christian church leader. The gangs killed 7 people and injured many others.

According to Reuters, some churchgoers were also kidnapped.

Several videos of the protests have gone viral on X showing many wearing yellow shirts associated with the religious group of Pastor Marco, marching in the suburb Canaan.

Meanwhile, some Haitians have joined civilian self-defense groups known as “Bwa Kale,” a movement that has inspired hope but also sparked retaliation against civilians.
