24-year-old Kaver Smith passes away three months after San Ignacio road traffic accident

By Horace Palacio: The twin towns is facing another tragedy after 24-year-old Kaver Smith, a victim of a horrible road traffic accident, succumbed to his injuries three months post-incident.

The accident, which had transpired during the early hours of June 17 2023 on Buena Vista Street in San Ignacio, involved a white four-door vehicle that collided with three pedestrians. Two ambulances had rapidly responded to the scene, transporting the victims to the San Ignacio Community Hospital.

Smith, who was severely injured, was swiftly transferred to the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan, before being admitted to the ICU in Belize City. For 40 days, Smith remained at the KHMH, enduring a battle for his life. After a short discharge in July, he was, tragically, re-admitted due to complications and passed away this morning.

The news of Smith’s passing has further incited a wave of anger and grief, especially on social media platforms. Family, friends, and well-wishers have expressed their heartache and are demanding justice. 

Wayne Henry was the driver involved in the incident and has been served a notice of intended prosecution by San Ignacio police.

An official report on this matter is eagerly awaited by both the public and the aggrieved families.
