By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The much-awaited Premier League of Belize match between the two Benque Viejo del Carmen sides, Benque Viejo United and Police Benque (Club Deportivo Benque) is scheduled for Saturday at 7:30 pm at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium.

Despite Police Benque dropping out of the playoffs race, Benque United need a win to cement their grip on a playoffs’ berth as Altitude are breathing hotly down their necks. With two games left in the regular season, they have 19 points, and a victory would put them at 22. Altitude have 16 points and a win on Sunday over Wagiya would put them at 19. Plus, they have the back match against the Bandits pending. On paper those two games look like six points for Altitude considering Bandits and Wagiya are at the bottom of the league ranking. So, Benque Viejo United not only need to win, they also need to score as many goals as possible to distance themselves from Altitude in goal difference in case of a draw in points at the end of the regular season as only the top four clubs qualify to the playoffs.

Benque Viejo United will be out to emulate their first-round encounter with their cross-town rivals whom they beat quite convincingly 3-0 on September 16 on goals by Nahjib Guerra, Owen Sosa, and Guatemalan Kender Arriaza.

For Police Benque, who are playing as the visitors, winning this game is a matter of pride, particularly after having been taken out of playoff contention.

So, expect a packed Marshalleck witnessing a great battle tonight in Benque.
