Transport Department and Board promises no service disruptions as countdown begins for Floralia

By Aaron Humes: The Transport Board and Department of Transport have one month to complete procedure as specified in Claim No. 134 of 2022 to properly award road service permits to competing interests in the South – Floralia Limited, Griga Line and James Bus Line.

On November 9, the court ruled that the permits were unlawfully given and hurt the business of the latter two companies to the benefit of the former, which won runs to Punta Gorda that directly competed with James and runs to Independence and Dangriga that removed Griga Line, headed by Bryant Williams, from the roads.

A statement issued a day later promises to implement the judgment and keep commuters informed of same while promising that “steps are being taken to avoid any [service disruptions],” thus avoiding frustration and anxiety for commuters.

The Government is reviewing the decision but the Board and Department say they “maintain their commitment to continue strengthening its internal procedures [to] maintain the highest public transportation processes and standards,” and add, “Our commitment to providing a safe, reliable, and improved public transportation system remains unchanged. The Transport Board and the Department of Transport are committed to providing a transportation system that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of our commuters.”

Floralia Limited is not disqualified from applying for runs in the southern corridor so long as they do not infringe on the rights of Griga Line, James, and other companies in the area to do business. They also face damages along with the Government to be paid for loss of business for Griga Line and James Bus Line.
