Javier Jones receives suspended sentence for use of deadly means of harm

By Aaron Humes: Originally charged with attempted murder, Javier Jones pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of use of deadly means of harm for a shooting incident in April of 2019. On Friday, he was spared immediate jail time by High Court Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft, who suspended his three-year prison term.

Justice Sandcroft made it clear to Jones that for the next three years, he must be on good behavior which means he cannot be arrested, charged, and convicted for any offense.

Jones was also ordered to pay compensation in the sum of $3,000 to his victim, Shane Jones (no relation) by December 12, 2024, in default, 18 months in jail. Jones also has to do three years of anger management and counseling through the Ministry of Human Development.

Javier Jones was represented by counsel Albertha Perez while Robert Lord prosecuted for the State.

The trial proceeded despite Shane Jones declining court action and appearing to forget details of the day he was shot, on April 17, 2019, when he took the witness stand.

Shane Jones was socializing at the residence of William Archila located on Youth for the Future Drive when Javier Jones and another man came to the home. Shane Jones left and went to the back of the yard but Javier Jones followed him with a gun in his hand and shot him twice in the abdomen.
